Microbial Killing with Ozone

White Diamond

A broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent

Ozone is a strong broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent that is especially effective against bacteria and viruses. Ozone oxidizes the fatty acids in the bacterial cell wall, called "lysis". In viruses, the ozone oxidizes the cell's DNA strands. In both examples, the damage is irreversible and causes quick destruction of the microorganism. The chart below illustrates the effectiveness ozone has in eliminating certain bacteria and viruses to a minimum of a Log 4 Reduction (99.99%) and the contact time required. "CT Value" is a multiplication of ozone concentration (ppm) and contact time.
